Places to upload files
« on: May 25, 2009, 09:43 »
If you want to share a file, such as scanned documents, collection of related text files, or PDFs, with someone, or with the forum, there are places that allow you to do so without creating an account.  Each one has its own policies about how long files will remain, size of file, and other such.  If it's something that doesn't need to be available permanently, these sites will do that.

http://www.mediafire.com/
http://www.filedropper.com/
http://www.zshare.net/
http://megashares.com/
http://www.megaupload.com/
http://www.filefactory.com/
http://www.sendspace.com/
http://www.easy-share.com/
http://www.savefile.com/
http://drop.io/ - 100 MB free per drop, requires Flash Player 9
http://www.divshare.com/ - Requires registration, but allows up to 5 gb for free

http://pastebin.ca/ will allow you to just paste in a piece of text or upload a file and has the added advantage of choosing when your text or file will expire.

Anyone who knows others, please post in this thread.  Also, if you're familiar with these sites, feel free to discuss advantages and disadvantages in this thread.

imageshare.us allows you to insert an URL of an image you want to share without you having to download it to your computer and then re-upload it. If you don't want to clog your HD with something that you only plan to use once or twice, this is very useful.

resizegif.com (I think) allows on the fly cropping and tweaking of images if you don't want to fire up Photoshop for a small project.

gifninja also does this, plus you can upload up to four seconds of a video in many formats to make a small animated gif.
