I think that the issue of Narconon Drug Education presentations in De Kalb County schools can be considered over.

Good catch.

I haven't seen anything to indicate that. Why do you say that?

I do not think that there will be any more Narconon Drug Education programs in De Kalb County, GA.

Please post here if you get word of one.

The fact they claim to have gotten into the schools to start with means somebody has some spainin' to do. I will need to see something concrete before putting this issue to rest. Your statement seems misleading, California.

The statement is not misleading.

What you want to know, I think, is how Narconon Drug Education is being stopped in DeKalb County Schools and I am not disclosing the details.

This falls under confidentiality because of the fact that many people in public education want nothing to do with internet activism, for their own reasons.  It is alarmingly easy for Narconon Drug Education to get into some schools..... become friends with a teacher or a board of education or PTA member, offer FREE drug education, and have overworked administrators/teachers that do not take the time to check out Narconon Drug Education on the Internet.  Or, they may call it "New Life Drug Education," "Drug Free Education" or any other bogus name that we may be familiar with but others not articulate with SCN/Narconon terminology are not familiar with.  Over the decade plus, from 2002 to now, we have found many variations of this scam but since 2004/2005 Narconon (insert another name here) Drug Education scam has lessened considerably.

Again, if you see DeKalb County Schools using Narconon (insert another name here) Drug Education, please post about it.

Umm, how about you be a little more vague so as to further confuse anyone trying to legitimately discuss this topic.

Please do tell:  What are the variations of the drug ed scam "we" have found and where were they found?  Specifics please.

Please elaborate on the reasons for citing "confidentiality" on how these PUBLIC OFFICIALS are hiding stopping a cult from entering their school system.  You would think that they would get kudos for this.

To me there is a difference between stopped and being stopped especially when asked to take either of these at face value. When it is truly stopped, there will be documents to that effect. Until that time, your statement that it "can be considered over" is misleading.

Really? That doesn't even make sense.

I hope you understand that it is reasonable and also a safe practice to ask others on the "internet" to back up their claims and clarify vague phrases.

To both Snippy and BMF:

1.  In pubic ed, one does not get "kudos," at least in public, for taking on SCN or any other group.  And the reason is, as follows:  in public ed, the teachers serve ALL the students, even those who are SCN'ers or whose parents/family are.  We want ALL students to feel comfortable in the classroom, no matter what the belief systems/concerns of the teachers and/or the students and the families is.  So, therefore, almost all the work is done under the rubric of confidentiality.

2.  In Florida last year, the charter school was rid of SCN/NOI because the PARENTS went to the press to complain and the SPT expose was very well written and researched, and the county office of education was supportive of shutting down that charter school, based on the laws/rules/regs pertinent to charter schools in that district.  The parents going to the press can be highly effective but not in all cases.

For example, some parents from very fundamentalist belief systems of all stripes usually (but not always, look at what is going on in Texas right now) cannot change district policy to conform to their belief systems by going to sympathetic press.

3.  The issue can be considered over because of the information that officials and others have now.  I am not disclosing the details due to confidentiality of the people involved with the decision making process. There is no vague claim here.

4.  My predictions are that there will be no further Narconon Drug Education in DeKalb County, GA and that Narconon of Georgia will be shut down.   @->---(=O  The people who have worked so hard on this issue should pat themselves on the back.  They, activists and not, have done great work!

Dear Social Transparency:

BTW, this emoticon feature is fun.

Welcome to the differences between the education (K-12) mores and culture and the Internet activist mores and culture.

As Narconons are being shut down and SCN/Narconon still tries to get in public education, I will be posting what I know.  And I am under constraints that I am fine with while others and I work and report here on we are doing and the results.

There are several of us working on this project but given OSA, some of the unpleasant behavior over at WWP, etc., many of the good guys do not want to play in the Internet SCN activists community.

I strongly urge anybody who is serious about reform in terms of SCN's access to public ed and to rehab programs to team up with good people who are not primarily focused on SCN nor want to get involved with the Internet activist community.

This falls under confidentiality because of the fact that many people in public education want nothing to do with internet activism, for their own reasons.

You seem to take issue with "internet activists", as you have labeled us.  I think you will find that these types of veiled insults, your ever-present air of superiority, namedropping and false associations, unverifiable claims, confusion techniques, and your feeble attempts to be a part of a "we" that only exists in your mind, will not get you anywhere here.  From what I've seen from you thus far, 18 posts in a 24 hour period, you have little to offer besides diversion.

If you have something of value to post, post it now.  Otherwise, I see no reason not to wish your posts into the Cornfield.

And, especially, don't think you can come here and insult the members without repercussion.

I recognize who you are, PL, and I am not the only one here who does.  Don't make the mistake of thinking that "internet activists" are as easily fooled as you think.  ARS wasn't, WWP wasn't, and TP isn't either.  Your game is old and played out.  Find a new one.  Somewhere else.

Be nice.  Don't hit.  Don't run with scissors.  Try not to make a mess, and if you do, clean it up.
