Per Wickstrom's planned expansion of his tottering drug empire, under the name Best Choice Rehabilitation in Wright Township, Michigan, faces one final legal hurdle.

Wright Township officials are locked in a legal battle with Wickstrom's Narconon-based drug rehabilitation treatment juggernaut, one that wants to build a drug treatment center in a former Marne nursing home.

Wright Township has until May 1 to file an appeal with the Michigan Court of Appeals. No confirmation of that appeal yet; however, all signs point to an appeal.

Thank you, Miss Fortune.  It's May 1; do you know yet whether an appeal was filed in the Michigan Court of Appeals?

Yes, an appeal was filed... I gather the case is now with the appeals panel for final. Despite two delays on the part of BDR et al, to submit timely answers, they have now been submitted and replied to by Wright Township.
I guess we just have to wait for the decision.

Thank you for updating the story. In addition to Marne, Wickstrom's South Bend, Indiana, facility--Tranquility Detox--does not yet have a license. The group missed a September 2013 deadline for additional information, and now must begin the process again.

Bump for updates and backstory links.

It appears this place is now opened for business as various incarnations of "Serenity Rehab" so they must have won the appeal?

In light of similar trouble brewing at Trout Run, the Planning Commission hearing/meeting info that happened before the court actions is some interesting history:

Not sure how to post the entire article so here's the link to an article about the Marne building:

http://www.mlive.com/sparta/index.ssf/2014/11/wright_township_to_pay_best_dr.html

Wright township paid Best Drug to settle the lawsuit.

Mediator Bruce Neekers, of Grand Rapids, helped the two sides reach an agreement that allows Best Drug to open its rehabilitation facility for drug and alcohol patients, operate as a detoxification center but does not allow the center to treat sex addicts which the company had sought.
Thanks for that! Narconons are chronically bad with sex with councilors and sex for drugs without adding sex addicts to the mix.

Yeah but there is still a big concession made there. The planning commission meeting/hearing minutes show they hammered on two things: no sex offenders (from public comment) and no detox (from one of the commissioners). Wickstrom made plenty of remarks that the detox was going to stay in Battle Creek and that wasn't an issue. But when they settled, things changed.
