OKLAHOMA EMPANELS GRAND JURY TO INVESTIGATE SCIENTOLOGY’S DRUG REHAB - The Underground Bunker (blog)

The Underground Bunker has learned that a multi-county Oklahoma state grand jury has been empaneled to look into criminal insurance fraud allegations against Scientology’s flagship drug rehab facility, Narconon Arrowhead.

Scientology’s celebrities — Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Kirstie Alley — have each promoted Scientology’s drug rehab network, Narconon, as a model program. But revelations about Narconon’s deceptive business model — that it offers Scientology training rather than drug counseling, for example — has resulted in an increasing number of law enforcement investigations and civil lawsuits around the country. The network’s flagship facility, Narconon Arrowhead in eastern Oklahoma, has especially been under scrutiny after three patients died in a nine-month period in 2011 and 2012, resulting in county and state investigations of the facility.

Last year, a similar Narconon center in the Atlanta area was shut down following a wrongful death lawsuit and a state and county investigation of insurance and credit card fraud, which is ongoing. Now, we’ve learned that the state of Oklahoma is also investigating insurance fraud allegations regarding Narconon Arrowhead.

We learned about the grand jury from Eric Tenorio, a former Narconon Arrowhead executive who has been open about his attempts to alert authorities to the deceptions he witnessed while working at the rehab facility....

Tenorio was served with a subpoena ordering him to appear in Oklahoma City on June 13 to testify before the multi-county grand jury.

Good luck Eric. Your truths are strong. Stand tall and tell it like it is!

I don't have to go to OK tomorrow.  They are letting me testify locally.  I'm nervous as hell.  I'm going to tell the truth and if that gets me time behind bars with them then so be it.  I'm willing and ready to take responsibility for the things I did in the past.  I need closure for this part of my life and its been a long time coming.  Hopefully things turn out how they are supposed to.

Understandably, the thought of testifying must be frightening, 10oriocookies. It takes courage to do what you have done since first blowing the whistle on this scam. I believe you are doing the right thing.

Many here will be thinking about you and cheering you on!

By Dana Hertneky

OKLAHOMA CITY -The investigation widens into the Scientology based rehab center Narconon Arrowhead.

Narconon's flagship rehab center on Lake Eufaula has been under investigation ever since three people died at the facility during a nine month time period in 2011 and 2012. Sources tell News 9 the Oklahoma Multi-County Grand Jury will now also be investigating the facility.

The multi-county grand jury will meet next week. What they are investigating is typically kept secret. However, a former Narconon executive tells News 9 he has been subpoenaed to testify.

"I know all the top players personally. I've been with Narconon 13 years, so I know everyone all over the country," said Eric Tenorio, who spoke to News 9 from New York where he currently lives....

Excellent article. It is good to see a reporter take up writing about this important news. Tony Ortega sets the bar high, but this article adds excellent details to the Narconon scams.

State officials called to testify before grand jury on Narconon Arrowhead

http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/investigations/state-officials-called-to-testify-before-grand-jury-on-narconon/article_7043b1c0-862e-5203-ab79-eaa576a30a74.html

Quote from: Tulsa World
The facility has now applied for certification as a substance abuse halfway house, defined by state law as one that provides “low intensity substance abuse treatment in a supportive living environment to facilitate the individual’s reintegration into the community.”

“This application is currently being processed to determine whether they meet all applicable standards,” Dismukes said.

Riggs said Narconon Arrowhead is “changing their mission” to comply with the new state law.

Their lawyer Riggs:

“There are always going to be a lot of critics, especially among the medical community,” he said.

Because, go figure, those medical people are just kind of funny that way!

Critics among the medical community? Oh, like the ones that did the report that got narCONon kicked out of California schools: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/at/narcononevaluation.asp ?

Do we know for a fact this is related to insurance fraud? Or could it be regarding possible payoffs to get the investigation shelved? I wonder.

The article said insurance fraud, but anything might be possible with all of the news coming out of OK lately.

The Multicounty Grand Jury heard testimony and reviewed evidence from multiple witnesses concerning allegations of insurance fraud at Narconon Arrowhead, located in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. The Grand Jury also received numerous exhibits concerning these practices, but there is still work to be done in this investigation. This Grand Jury supports and recommends the continued investigation of these allegations.

What it means is that there was not yet enough sufficient evidence to indict but keep looking because the evidence submitted indicates there could be - so keep digging.

My guess would be the murders and DA office investigation got a higher priority than insurance fraud for the GJ's time. And I'm pretty sure that's what it was, since the Insurance folks were on the agency list, and mental health wasn't. So when they finally got to NN AH, they uncovered enough to figure out something was going on. But didn't have time to take it to the point of issuing indictments. Thus the paragraph saying this needs more investigation.

Hopefully this gets picked up when the next GJ is empaneled. Or law enforcement finally gets a clue, between this and the suppressed IG report, and drops on AH like a rock.
