Jeff Jacobsen (a well-known critic of scientology) has suggested placing a memorial brick in Sturgis, SD for Lisa McPherson.
http://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/sturgis-brick/He says:
For $75 you can get a memorial brick that will be on Sturgis' main street. The (motorcycle) rally is going on right now and draws up to 500,000 people per year, besides the other locals and people who visit the rest of the year. If you'd like to contribute let me know. $75 is a bit steep for me at the moment to pay by myself.
Around the year 2000, he had a memorial brick placed in Gaslight Alley, in Clearwater, Florida for her, which generated a lot of controversy, due to the large population of scientologists in the area.
The memorial brick placed in Gaslight Alley Park in Clearwater, in case you don't know the story, caused quite a stir. The committee that processed the brick orders rejected my brick that simply said "Remember Lisa McPherson." They said it would cause community disharmony. After some bad publicity and a legal threat over free speech issues (it's in a city park), my brick was put in. A couple of years later someone had scratched off "Lisa McPherson" from the brick. I contacted the brick company for a replacement and was told that in 15 years of making bricks, they had never had one defaced before. So it was replaced by the city and moved closer to the street to discourage further vandalism.
Bricks and pavers must be purchased by March 15, 2010 to ensure placement on legendary Main Street in downtown Sturgis by June, 2010.
