ravenanon and I passed out fliers in Kansas City. We met at Westport and Pennsylvania and worked our way towards the Kansas City Church of Scientology. Before I met Raven, it was required that I meet one of the Westport crazies. There was a dude shouting at the people in Harry's Bar and Tables about being unpatriotic or something. He was chased off by one of the workers there and told me, "Better late than never" before walking off. After a while, the bartender got out an American flag and started to wave it around. When we were at the 39th and Main bus stop, I passed out a flier to man there who asked what the flier was about. I told him it was about Scientology and he said something like, "Those clowns? Someone should blow up their building!" I'm guessing he was just a tough guy, but you never know.Notable events at the flash raid include: Passing out a flier to a Scientologist, buying Certificates of Love from someone and giving one of my spare masks to his son, Maincor Security spying on us (not as bad as it sounds, they're actually pretty cool) & me being new and Raven showing me the ropes. There was this one epic dude that said he couldn't read when I tried to hand him a flier, so Raven and I gave him the rundown. He asked us, "Do you know about Mother Mary?" and said that he was Jesus. Then he said he was going to ask the Scientologists himself, crossed the street, and went inside. A woman escorted him outside and handed him a DVD. After he walked off he came walking back on our side with more random trivia. This time he asked us if we knew about the Indians, said that this area used to be a valley, and told us he was a half-blooded Indian before he left.I met another ex-cult member, this time not from Scientology. (Again, if anyone on The Tipping Point wants me to post my first protest here, feel free to ask me) He said he was part of a church on Broadway and got out after reading a book (which I fail to remember the name of) where there was a list of cult characteristics. 18 out of the 20 items listed were things he experienced, so he left. He said he was still a religious person, but he was disaffected with New Age religion, saying that they can't prove the old things, so they make up new things.Afterwords, we went and ate at a deli. On the way, we saw a Hare Krishna monk, which is cool because neither of us knew they were in KC. Then I went to a movie theater and didn't see Knight and Day. Toy Story 3 is awesome!Raven has all the pics, cause my camera stopped working before the raid.P.S. Went by the forgotten KC Ideal Org. Still looks just like a bank.
Red was a really great host! His shirt had OT3 on it and he had 2 different fliers. We talked to people and handed out fliers and left them places too. The cult did their best to ignore us. Red is new and full of energy which was a nice contrast to me lol I forgot my sign and mask, but lucky for me Red shared. We had lots of honks, waves and thumbs up.Protesting KC is very different than ATL. ATL cults buildings are in greener settings, but the KC org is defiantly part of the concrete jungle.picts from my sad little cell phone follow:Info for the public to findInforming the publicPicts I was there! You can sort of see Reds OT3 shirt here:Here's the image on my shirt:
LOL! Now I want an OT3 shirt, too.
How did the conversation with the Scientologist go?It looks like you had some opportunities to open up a few conversations while offering up flyers.Good job.
Nice job RSW.
