Here is some of what Scientology believes. It falls under fair use. I will provide links where applicable, to places with more information.
Before I get into the meat of my point, you cannot forget about the death orders given by the founder of Scientology, recorded in its policies (which they sometimes call scripture):
There are only two answers for the handling of people from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale, neither one of which has anything to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of their acts. The first is to raise them on the Tone Scale by un-enturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid processes. The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow.
L. Ron Hubbard, SCIENCE OF SURVIVAL, p. 170
What's below 2.0? Sympathy (positioned far below having no sympathy), Grief (Scientolgists believe it's wrong to grieve?) and more. A list on a Scientology web site:
http://www.scientologyhandbook.org/FULL.HTMAnd we can't forget about R2-45, a directive to shoot specified people with a .45 caliber firearm!
R2-45: AN ENORMOUSLY EFFECTIVE PROCESS FOR EXTERIORIZATION BUT ITS USE IS FROWNED UPON BY THIS SOCIETY AT THIS TIME.
L. Ron Hubbard, The Creation of Human Ability
(all caps as per the original)
It is claimed that Hubbard was joking; however, the order to use this policy appeared on an enemy declaration against a group of people in 1967.
http://www.skeptictank.org/r2-45.htmThe disappearance of a certain quote (most typically for PR purposes) from Scientology 'scriptures' is explained here:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Fishman/Declaration/exhibg.htmlThe original quote:
The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage rather than win.
The law can be used very easily to harass, and enough harassment on somebody who is simply on the thin edge anyway, well knowing that he is not authorized, will generally be sufficient to cause professional decease. If possible, of course, ruin him utterly.
The same volume contains this snippet:
The DEFENSE of anything is UNTENABLE. The only way to defend anything is to ATTACK, and if you ever forget that then you will lose every battle you are ever in engaged in..
That reminds me of what a certain lawyer may be eventually used for: stringing out the Sandy Springs residents and local government until they're worn down before suing over religious issues.
Of course, Galloway is following what his client wants, and that is to make the Sandy springs locals fall for the doublethink of Scientology, through lies.
THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM. You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way you can control anybody is to lie to them.
L. Ron Hubbard, "Off the Time Track," lecture of June 1952, excerpted in JOURNAL OF SCIENTOLOGY issue 18-G, reprinted in TECHNICAL VOLUMES OF DIANETICS & SCIENTOLOGY, vol. 1, p. 418
Scientology is rife with accusations against non-Scientologists.
Now, get this as a technical fact, not a hopeful idea. Every time we have investigated the background of a critic of Scientology, we have found crimes for which that person or group could be imprisoned under existing law. We do not find critics of Scientology who do not have criminal pasts.
L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Bulletin, 5 November 1967, "Critics of Scientology"
So when you're asked, "What are your crimes?" over and over by a Scientologist 'handler,' you know what they're trying to find.
This is the correct procedure: Spot who is attacking us. Start investigating them promptly for felonies or worse using our own professionals, not outside agencies. Double curve our reply by saying we welcome an investigation of them. Start feeding lurid, blood sex crime actual evidence on the attackers to the press. Don't ever tamely submit to an investigation of us. Make it rough, rough on attackers all the way.
L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, 25 February 1966
If Scientology is so clean, why would they not welcome investigation? Perhaps what they say is OK to do, isn't so OK after all.
Somebody some day will say 'this is illegal.' By then be sure the orgs [Scientology organizations] say what is legal or not.
L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, 4 January 1966, "LRH Relationship to Orgs"
So they believe they are above the law!
At this point in the zoning debate, I'd expect Scientology to attempt influencing the people involved by means other than presenting their case at the zoning meetings, in a professional manner. This policy sort of outlines the behavior:
If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace. Peace is bought with an exchange of advantage, so make the advantage and then settle. Don't ever defend. Always attack. Don't ever do nothing. Unexpected attacks in the rear of the enemy's front ranks work best.
L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, "Department of Governmental Affairs", 15 Aug 1960
Yes, they do view zoning opposition as an attack. They believe, as a "religion," they should be able to do what they want regardless of its impact. Look at Clearwater, Florida as an example. Some buildings are still split between religious staff housing and hotel usage; some buildings are in a permanent parking debate.
I could easily go on, and on, and on, and on ........ with quotes. In stead, I'll leave a few links to resources. But first, here is some video evidence of the current goals of Scientology:
