A SENIOR figure of the Church of Scientology has been arrested and charged with over claims she coached an 11-year-old girl to lie about sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather.

Jan Eastgate, who is the international president of the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights, has been charged in relation to allegations she coached Carmen Rainer into lying about the claims, the ABC reported.

The girl's stepfather was a member of the Church of Scientology.

Police allege Ms Eastgate threatened and intimidated her into providing false statements to police about the abuse.

The allegations were aired on Lateline last year and are backed up by Ms Rainer's mother who claims Ms Eastgate coached them both on what to say about the allegations.

Ms Eastgate has been granted conditional bail and has been asked to surrender her passport.

She is due to appear in Downing Centre Court on June 16.

This is not even close to the first time this cult has been accused of acting proactively to protect child molesters from justice, just so long as they were 'upstat' (still able to pay for services).

My guess is that sexual abuse of children likely does not happen any more often amongst Scientologists than among the general populace; but Scientology surely must be the only church whose superior officers appear to have an official policy to protect members in good standing (i.e., paying members) from state prosecution for their crimes against children. This is perhaps because of their belief the children 'pulled it in', (by being cute I suppose). Here is another case of the 'wacky beliefs' leading, if not to the practice of evil, then certainly to the protection of evildoers from responsibility for their actions.

I have found few instances of good works coming from false premises, and I have seen no Scientology premises which can survive scientific scrutiny. Please, never forget that the official Scientology teaching is that children who are molested are molested because they want to be molested.

I am very glad that Scientology is a House built on Sand...

'til next time;

... don't forget their constant PR scramble, hoping to hide anything that doesn't make them look like they're the most ethical people on the planet. Aiding a Scientologist who has done some heinous thing should only come natural to them, as allowing the person's exposure an arrest ultimately looks bad for Scientology's reputation.

I attended the 2011 American Psychiatric Association convention in Honolulu where I encountered a Scientology camera crew interviewing psychiatrists on the street for a video that would then be edited to show the field of psychiatry in a bad light.

Scientologist 'coached child to lie about sexual abuse' - The Guardian
15 June 2011, 1:41 pm

A senior member of the Church of Scientology is due to appear in court in Australia on Thursday charged with perverting the course of justice.

It is alleged that Jan Eastgate, 57, threatened and intimidated an 11-year-old girl into providing false statements to police. The case relates to an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of the girl in 1985 by her stepfather, a church member.

The girl – who cannot be named for legal reasons – said on Australian television last year that she was coached by Eastgate to lie to police and community services. She said Eastgate told her to deny any charges of sexual abuse.

The girl's mother made similar allegations against Eastgate. Both mother and daughter were members of the church at the time.

Eastgate is international president of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, a body founded by the Church of Scientology that campaigns against psychiatry, and has been awarded the church's freedom medal for promoting human rights. She is Australian, but lives in Los Angeles.

Eastgate has previously called the allegations against her "egregiously false".

Scrutiny of the Church of Scientology in Australia has been led by an independent senator Nick Xenophon, a member of the parliament's upper house. Xenophon has called for a judicial inquiry into the practices of the church.

"The widespread allegations of abuse and criminality are incredibly serious and warrant serious and immediate investigation," he said.

IT was a rare and at times dramatic public appearance by one of the most senior members of a global religious organisation that shrouds itself in secrecy.

Surrounded by supporters, senior Scientologist Janice Meyer arrived at the Downing Centre Local Court yesterday, accused of pressuring an 11-year-old girl to lie about sex abuse within the church.

Ms Meyer, who also goes by the name Jan Eastgate, left with relaxed bail restrictions that will allow her to travel to and from her home in California.

The 57-year-old head of the church's ''Citizens Commission on Human Rights'' was charged last month with perverting the course of justice over the 1985 incident. She allegedly told the 11-year-old she should deny any charges of sexual abuse, allegedly committed by her stepfather, to police and officers from the Department of Social Services.

According to ABC TV's Lateline program, the young girl's mother was also allegedly pressured to lie to the authorities. The program reported that the child was told by other senior members of the church that the abuse was punishment for being bad in a previous life.

Ms Meyer has previously called the allegations ''egregiously false'' but has not commented since being charged.

The police prosecutor opposed the application for unrestricted bail yesterday, telling the court that the alleged conduct involved ''a gross breach of trust'' in relation to a child.

But Ms Meyer's lawyer, Stuart Bouveng, told the court that she had been a resident of California since 1993 where she has ''a significant business and employs a number of employees''.

''There is no evidence at all that your honour would have any fears she would not show up at court,'' he said.

Magistrate Graeme Henson lifted the travel restriction but imposed an order that Ms Meyer must pay $10,000 if she fails to turn up at the next hearing on August 18.
