Frivolous law suits in the news (literally)

I'm not sure how much of this I should feel safe quoting /sarcasm

Apparently a Steve Gibson, CEO of a Las Vegas-based company is buying out news copyrights, then suing people who quote them.

It seems he sees it as a way to make money since many people can't afford a lawyer, much less the legal expenses of a trial.  Even those whose use of an article's content should fall under Fair Use have been settling out of court, simply because of the potential legal expense.
