Ugly ain't kiddin'.  Nice colors, but my grandma told me to stay away from hairy caterpillers.  She said they sting.  I never tried to find out if she was right.

Some do, but most don't. I used to play with them when I was a kid. The fluffy ones would curl up in your hand and let you pet them. But we never killed them because we knew the fun coming when they turned into butterflies, and our dogs would chase them around the back yard!

I am however familiar with the poisonous blue-tailed skink.

We had scads of those sleek skinkly fellows in my yard when I was growing up. Couldn't remember why we weren't supposed to mess with them, but we never did.
