Scientology speech is cause of first campus riot since 1995 - Advance Titan
28 October 2010, 12:18 am

Quote
"Before I discovered Scientology I felt like a nobody," Cruise said. "I was out of work, lost and depressed. It was not a good time for me."

Cruise's speech focused primarily on the acceptance of Scientology, the need to offer the group resources and was supposed to include an open debate of issues facing Scientologists on campus. Administrators said they hoped to provide an open forum for a variety of students with different beliefs.

Despite the peaceful nature of the gathering, an angry mob, led by known Scientologiphobe Barney, broke through security soon after Cruise began his speech.

Cruise voiced several pleas first to his assailants and then to the Scientological gods, which may have included a spaghetti monster, but to no avail.

Campus police were called in to break up the riot that ensued, but even though the mêlée was tamed, Cruise was nowhere to be found.

"You coward," Barney yelled at the door through which Cruise appeared to have retreated. "Come back and face the real truth."

As a dinosaur, Barney said he has always felt that Scientology's denial of his existence is not only offensive but also irrational.

Is this a purely humourous piece, or based on an actual event?

I had to see the article to realize it was purely satirical; I hadn't seen anything in the news about it, but I kept imagining the protester who (at least used to go to raids) dressed as Barney, and a few in GF masks storming through some crowd barricades.

If I had been drinking anything, said beverage might have shot through my nose before the horror set in of what that would mean.

Yeah, I was worried that AnonyBarney might have decided to troll Scientologists again. That would not necessarily be a good thing.
