Weirdness.

Before I saw that article on Science Fair Projects Encyclopedia, I had originally thought that the CoS Mission as a whole decided to convert. It made sense to me at the time given the religious nature of Kansas City (or Missouri in general).

But that still raises questions. Was it a "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"-type of thing? Did they merge because of mutual interests? Or were their philosophies somehow similar?

I think this was a decision of the KC mission holders at that time, who probably had a LDS background and decided to leave Scientology because of all the rage against missions and the drama in the church from 1982-1984. Basically, missionholders at tht time had more rights of ownership until David Miscavige made many of them sign over everything in what is known as the Mission Takeover period Perhaps KC mission escaped initial scrutiny, like some smaller ones managed to do in the East US as long as the % of income was flowing up management. Eventually every mission closed or changed hands.

You know...if someone told me this stuff 10 years ago, 5 years ago, or even 2-3 years ago, I might have just written it off as conspiracy theorist material. Thank God for hard evidence like video, audio, and court documents. That did a lot to convince me to take up this cause.

More might be gleaned from the history and talk sections, which I would certainly try to do before I wandered in and  .

I don't know when, but the Science Fair Projects (SFP) page says that the info there was taken from wikipedia, yet I see nothing on wikipedia that resembles the SFP page...  I haven't looked at everything about it on wikipedia, though.

Something happened to change the record on Sept. 26 last year.  This could have been something as simple as changing web hosts.  But they clearly plan to be around, with a registration paid up till 2015, and they clearly have been around since at least 1999.

I don't think that that quote applies to this old situation. The Scn mission closed and became the Zion church in 1984. I really believe that the Scn mission holder was a mormon of sorts to begin with and after being put through the scn missionholder wringer, decided to stick with his original religion. Just a hunch. In those days, a lot of people left Scientology.

Maybe I was wrong about them being a Mormon-related group?  I'm more familiar with the mainstream Protestant churches like Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, etc. 

What I meant was:
All these little groups that split away from the main church, then split away from each other, forming individual churches that differ on points which are actually somewhat minor (to me, anyway) to the original idea, each one claiming to have the truth, unlike the others.
