Dragon*Con Post Game - Religion in Star Wars
« on: September 08, 2009, 12:24 »
As a big huge gigantic Star Wars fan, I attended a panel on religion in Star Wars.  It was a pretty good discussion.   It wrapped up with the thought that religion serves a purpose, even if the god it is based on doesn't really exist. (If you have faith, and that brings you comfort and happiness in this life, what does it matter?)
That being said, and given that the Jedi code is good common sense morals, she then asked for opinions on if there is any issue with having Jedi as a religion.

At that I raised my hand and said that I find it unnerving to abandon centuries old religions for one that was simply dreamed up by a science fiction writer 50 - ah, I mean 30 - years ago.

That drew quite a few knowing chuckles from the crowd, and the guy two chairs down from me muttered "Like Scientology".

Oh, that's rich!  And at least for your Star Wars money, you get movies!
