The Command Chart of ScientologyThis chart is illuminating. I'm not including it inline as an image because it's very large, and if made smaller, it cannot be read, so click on the link to view it (it's on wikileaks). In your browser, you can probably click on the image to enlarge it to 100% or true size. In order to read some of the text, I opened it in a graphics editing program so I could enlarge it to various magnifications.
It shows the enormous infrastructure in place which forms the "Church of Scientology." On the left side, about halfway down, is the following:
The hundreds of ORGS, MISSIONS, DIANETICS COUNSELING GROUPS, CITY OFFICES, FIELD AUDITORS, WISE UNITS AND SOCIAL REFORM GROUPS, operating on LRH policy and dedicated to delivering LRH techinology to the public, are the heart of International Scientology. All management units exist solely to ensure their future and ever-expanding prosperity through the standard application of LRH's Technology and Policy.
"THE ONLY REASON ORGS EXIST IS TO SELL AND DELIVER MATERIALS AND SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC AND GET IN PUBLIC TO SELL AND DELIVER TO. THE OBJECT IS TOTALLY FREED CUSTOMERS!" LRH
This focus on selling, money, finance, and income (VFPs, Valuable Final Products) permeates Hubbard's writings and the entire structure of scientology.
Notice that the "Class IV Organizations" block is but a small part of the whole, and is near the bottom of the the chart. A Class IV Organization is the part that we would think of as the actual local church (if we thought of scientology in such terms). Notice that near the top is the Int Finance Office. The bottom half of the image is concentrated on "The Class IV Organization and its Valuable Final Products." The term, "Valuable Final Product," should be a red flag to anyone who is aware of it, as should the selling of the "Bridge" and the double cross.
I wonder what a traditional church's chart would look like, if they were to have one. I think most churches have some social betterment activities, but I also think most churches focus on just a few issues, such as the homeless (feeding, clothing, and housing) or substance abuse - they do not spider themselves out into any and every area from which income can be derived, and they generally provide these services from money donated by members - they do not ask for money from the people they are claiming to help.
How can we use this chart to our advantage, other than to help us understand the structure of scientology? What are your thoughts on the chart?
