When I first started working with Narconon, the one in northern California was simply called Narconon Northern California.  We referred to it as "Nor Cal".  Then several years ago they tried to get away from the black PR online and changed their name to Vista Bay Treatment Center, but Narconon International wouldn't allow them to ditch the Narconon name, so they go by Narconon Vista Bay.  Now in apparently another effort do dodge accumulated black PR online again (lawsuits, negative info about Narconon, etc.) they have started to use Redwood Cliffs Rehab.  Their site redwoodcliffsrehab . com doesn't actually talk about Narconon at all though.  The Narconon logo is at the top and the copyright info is at the bottom, but both are images and not text, so therefore it doesn't show up under searches when cross-referencing the two.

This is a similar tactic that Narconon Southern California (So Cal) did when renaming its individual centers and using Fresh Start for its network-within-a-network of Narconon centers.

As mentioned elsewhere here, other centers try to do the same, such as Narconon Freedom Center going by "Freedom Drug Rehab", Narconon Suncoast using "Suncoast Rehabilitation Center," etc.

As far as the IRS is concerned they're still Narconon Northern California. I wonder if they did a "Narconon Northern California DBA Narconon Vista Bay and/or Redwood Cliffs Rehab" with the state, but still use NN No. CA with the IRS??

As Narconon, or Red Wood Cliffs?

We can do the cross-referencing for them; we excel at that.   ;D

Even the copyright statement at the bottom in a graphic!   :-D^\^\

It says:
© 2013 Narconon Redwood Cliffs.  All rights reserved.  Narconon and the Narconon logo are trademarks and service marks owned by the association for Better Living and Education International and are used with its permission.

Oops, I wonder if the Narconon Redwood Cliffs copyright statement is copyrighted.   :P

It's so odd, though, that they don't mind the people who come to the Narconon Redwood Cliffs Drug Rehab site knowing it's Narconon, but they don't want the search engines to know it.  It's almost as if it's US who they didn't want to find out about it.

So, just to make that clear for the visitors: Narconon Northern California is the same as Narconon Vista Bay and the same as Redwood Cliffs Rehab.  The same Narconon has also been called Narconon Watsonville at some time in the past, also, but whether it was a colloquialism, or official name, I'm not sure.

Narconon Northern California = Narconon Vista Bay = Redwood Cliffs Rehab = Narconon Watsonville

Those pages would look a lot better, too, if the "overflow: hidden" was taken out of here:

    overflow: hidden;

Did a quick search of the Business Entity lising at http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/ and this is what came up:

Entity Number   Date Filed    Status                 Entity Name                                          Agent for Service of Process
C1765679        06/22/1995   ACTIVE              FRIENDS OF NARCONON INTL.     DAPHNA L HERNANDEZ
C0720613        08/19/1974   SUSPENDED        NARCONON BERKELEY
C2186790        03/03/2000   ACTIVE              NARCONON DRUG PREVENTION & EDUCATION, INC.   SIGAL ADINI
C2213359        02/23/2000   ACTIVE              NARCONON FRESH START            MARK KIRWIN
C2516763        06/03/2003   SUSPENDED        NARCONON HOLLYWOOD             JAMES STEINBERG

C1654607        12/18/1989   SUSPENDED        NARCONON OF SACRAMENTO      RONALD SEVEROID

Searching on Narconon Vista Bay, Redwood Cliffs Rehab, and Narconon Watsonville returns a "Record Not Found" response. And the full listing for Narconon of Northern California does not show any 'DBA', 'Assumed Name', or 'Alias' associated with that entity number.

Or put another way, it would appear NN of No. Calif. is using assumed business names without notifying the California Secretary of State's office. I wonder if they are paying their payroll, property, and income taxes to the state as NN of No. Calif. or, since they aren't listed as a business entity under the assumed names, just not paying them at all??

I see they're playing the name spelling game again with their corporate registrations -Kohrin, Kobrin, tomato, tomahto

Narconon Northern California = Narconon Vista Bay = Redwood Cliffs Rehab = Narconon Watsonville

Looks like they're quickly on the defensive up there at Narconon Vista Bay / Redwood Cliffs Rehab.

The other day when you searched for the name all that came up was redwoodcliffsrehab . com.  But now they also have redwoodcliffs . org, redwoodcliffsdrugrehab . org, rewoodcliffsdrugrehab . com, webdev . redwoodcliffs . com / facilites / and probably several more.  It's the preemptive anti-black-pr/reputation management campaign.

Interesting that the Narconon network has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for online reputation management in recent years, yet in GA if you search for Narconon in Google then 18 of the top 20 results are negative...

If 18 of the top 20 are negative that means their fake referral sites are doing their job (or they are making everyone deaf and blind before they get there).  We need to step it up on a notch.  There's a list compiled of these fake sites yes?  Has it gone to the AG's in each state a NN is in?  Its only like 6 or 7 states.  Another would need to go to SAMSHA or one of those types of agencies. More to media.  Maybe some to CRC so they can use their contacts.

Dear ADP Complaint Intake,

Why is it that Narconon programs keep getting away with not registering their fictitious and corporate name changes with your agency before they begin operating under these names?

This has happened before, with Narconon Southern California changing it's legal name to Narconon Fresh Start. You cited NARCONON JLB RANCH Record ID 370087BN for not informing you of the name change from Narconon Southern California to Narconon Fresh Start, but you failed to cite them on keeping the old legal name on their HUNTINGTON HARBOR HOUSE Record ID 300077AN license. The legal name of Narconon Southern California no longer exists.

The legal name of all programs under the Narconon name in southern CA, is Narconon Fresh Start. This legal name was changed almost 3 years ago! You can search for both here: http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/. Only Narconon Fresh Start is listed.  You can look at your records for the program Narconon JBL Ranch to confirm this name change.

Now I have another issue to inform you about. This is in regards to another Narconon entity,  Narconon Northern California, marketing on the internet what is either a new unlicensed rehab facility or one or more of it's licensed programs under the program names REDWOOD CLIFFS, REDWOOD CLIFFS DRUG REHAB & NARCONON REDWOOD CLIFFS

It seems that Narconon of Northern California registered these names with the Santa Cruz County Clerk's Office on Jan 8, 2013, nearly a month after these sites went up and began advertising on the internet, using success stories of graduates to promote their program. You can see these ficitious names here:
http://sccounty01.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/clerkrecorder/asp/FBNDocDetail.asp?DocID=2013-0000064

The fictitious names they registered are:

Business Name             FBN Number         Registrant           File Date
REDWOOD CLIFFS          2013-0000064    NARCONON OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA     1/8/2013

REDWOOD CLIFFS DRUG REHAB  2013-0000064  NARCONON OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
1/8/2013

NARCONON REDWOOD CLIFFS   2013-0000064     NARCONON OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
1/8/2013
http://sccounty01.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/clerkrecorder/asp/FBNDocDetail.asp?DocID=2013-0000064

Their web sites were registered in Dec 2012, with Success Stories of patients, which means they were operating as the above names before either having a license or not reporting to your agency their program name changes. You can see the website links, as well as the website registrations. The name Narconon is included on the main site  www.redwoodcliffsrehab.com/

You can also see the name Narconon here.
http://www.redwoodcliffsrehab.com/treatment/redwood-cliffs-drug-rehab-therapy/

They are all over the internet advertising, displaying success stories from graduates yet they are not even registered with your agency. Some do not mention the name Narconon. You can see a google search of them here:

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=Redwood+cliffs+rehab&oq=Redwood+cliffs+rehab&gs_l=hp.12..0l2.1831.6611.1.8852.20.16.0.4.4.0.217.2678.1j13j2.16.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.4.hp.nAOowtrjBhk&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.42768644,d.dmQ&fp=b67c912a47892205&biw=1024&bih=638
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=redwoodcliffs.com

Here are the website domain registrations for some but not all of these web sites . They each have their registration information hidden through a proxy company so you can't tell that Narconon Northern California owns these sites:
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=redwoodcliffsrehab.com

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=redwoodcliffsaddictiontreatment.com

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=redwoodcliffs.org

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=redwoodcliffsdrugrehab.org

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=redwoodcliffsaddictiontreatment.com

Your Status Report of 2/8/2013 does not list this Redwood Cliffs name for any and all of Narconon of Northern California licensed programs, nor does it have the correct legal name for HUNTINGTON HARBOR HOUSE
http://www.adp.ca.gov/Licensing/pdf/Status_Report.pdf

Narconon Northern California has many lawsuits filed against their programs, more than any facility in the USA, so that might explain the advertising of a fictitious name.

In recent months, Narconon Fresh Start ( formerly Narconon Southern California ) has already been caught by your agency operating 2 unlicensed facilities:

The Barn
35955 Highway 79
Warner Springs, CA 92086
License Number: Unlicensed Facility
Cease and Desist Issued: September 6, 2012
The Big House
35422 Highway 79
Warner Springs, CA 92087
License Number: Unlicensed Facility
Cease and Desist Issued: September 6, 2012
http://www.adp.ca.gov/Licensing/pdf/Suspended_and_Revoked_Programs.pdf

Are they doing it again with the Narconon Northern California programs? Or did they just change their 'doing business as' dba name and fail to report it to ADP? Perhaps a new name was decided, minimally, as their Narconon Vista Bay program has more lawsuits now than any other Narconon in the USA.

In summary:

You have to investigate why Narconon Fresh Start did not inform you of their legal name change on the HUNTINGTON HARBOR HOUSE facility license renewal.

You need to investigate whether Narconon Northern California is running illegal unlicensed program under the name Redwood Cliffs at a new
location(s)  or if they are operating their Vista Bay, Watsonville and Tahoe programs under a fictitious name which they then failed to report to you.

Thank you for your attention to this.

Redwood Cliffs Rehab - Ryan P
from Tom Marshall 4 weeks ago all audiences

Redwood Cliffs Drug Rehab is a residential, long-term drug and alcohol treatment program. We specialize in handling the underlying causes of addiction. Most other drug treatment facilities treat addiction as a disease and manage it through daily meetings and medication. Unfortunately, this only treats the symptoms of addiction. Getting to the root cause often takes real work, but we have been doing it successfully for decades. Our program and staff can help the addict isolate what is driving them to addiction, and how they can live a new life without drugs.
