Scientology News and Propaganda section
« on: August 27, 2009, 17:53 »
We've added a Scientology News and Propaganda category to the forum, which is automatically being fed by RSS feeds from some of the news providers on the web.  (If you don't know what RSS is, it is similar to google alerts, but without cluttering up your email.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss

Our "RFTTP News Team" will be sorting the raw feeds into the appropriate subforum within Scientology News and Propaganda for your viewing pleasure, so feel free to comment on the articles coming in.  If there is interest in the stories, the thread may be moved into another appropriate section of the forum.

If you'd like to suggest any sources for news feeds to be retrieved from, please just let us know, and we will try to arrange it.

Anyone want to take bets on which, the News or the Propaganda, gets the most posts?   ;)

I was just about to ask WTF was going on with a bunch of Sci press releases showing up in the topics list... They just don't stop coming do they?!?

LOL, nope, but there always seem to be more when scientology wants people to look somewhere in another direction.

Did you think scientologists had invaded the forum?   :D

If you don't want them showing up in the "Unread posts" you can go to your profile and choose the "Ignore Boards Options" (this is a new option just activated), then select the ones you don't want to see.  They'll still be visible to you from the board index; they just won't show up in the "Unread posts" or any searches you do.  If you don't even want to see them on the board index, you can collapse categories with the little minus sign image to the left of the category name.

Sometimes the Propaganda type posts are useful for finding places that need to be informed about scientology, or finding out what the front groups (particularly narconon) are up to, or at least what they claim they're up to.  They may also be useful to divert people whose search might land them on the press release sites, and bring them here instead.   ;D

Do you think you could add the Ask The Scientologist RSS feed to the news postings?

Thanks for the suggestion!

I've added it, and they should be coming in by sometime tomorrow.  By default with blogs, it gets the complete blog post.  I'll send Bill (the Scientologist) a message to see if it's ok if we post the whole thing, or if he wants us to snip everything past the first couple of paragraphs (it's polite to ask, I think.)  I created a "Scientology-related Blogs to Watch" subforum for them.

Mary McConnell gave us permission to pull in her complete posts from her "Formerly Fooled and Finally Free" blog, so maybe Bill will do the same.   :)
