Scientology empire expanding to Monroe Michigan?

Here's an article detailing a possible joint effort between Per Wickstrom and some former NFL players

Quote
#The idea to pitch the project to A Forever Recovery was developed by Monroe resident Sean Jordan, a West Point graduate and former NFL football player with the Dallas Cowboys. His business partner is Herman Moore, a star receiver who retired from the Detroit Lions.

#The two former players teamed with April Demers of the Monroe County Substance Abuse Coalition to bring Mr. Wickstrom and his associates to tour Boysville.

Again they seemed to have forgotten to mention Scientology...

This is horrible! These people have got to know this is all a scam and not a good thing for their state or town. It is sickening to me.

Miss Fortune covered this story on her blog.

FRENCHTOWN KISS: Per Wickstrom Tours Former Monroe County "Boysville" Center. Is This The New Home of A Forever Recovery-Monroe County? - Glistening,Quivering Underbelly (blog)
Friday, November 15, 2013
Quote
..... The Monroe News appeared to parrot Wickstromworld's party line, describing A Forever Recovery as using "a five- phase program to overcome addiction where patients can stay anywhere from 60 to 120 days. It can be a faith-based treatment program, but the degree of spirituality is up to the patient."

Wickstrom was claimed in the article that he was "surprised at the scope of the heroin problem in Monroe and would like to offer his services if it can be arranged."

“It blows my mind that it’s such an epidemic,” Wickstrom said, barely able to conceal his glee. “ That’s why we need to open this facility.”

Wickstrom's model of scam relies on out of state clients.

He cannot afford to have locals spreading the word about what really happens inside his treatment centers.  Nor can he have concerned parents or family members actually coming to visit or communicating with the patient.  And he certainly can't have them physically in the office demanding their money back when they learn their insurance company has also been charged 3 times what he quoted you and they actually paid it.

He touts tours and visiting days, but an angry or worried parent is turned away from the grounds under the misuse of HIPAA laws.

Monroe County residents would not" benefit" from this facility.

I've noticed the same thing in court proceedings. HIPAA is used when it is beneficial to their case, but ignored in other circumstances. I'll have to dig back through the Desmond case to see if I can find an example.

Glad you're back posting, Escapee.

Well HIPAA plays right into the secrecy and protection they need to make the scam possible.

Alcohol and Drug Rehab is the absolute perfect vehicle for them to abuse and is why it is proving so difficult to dislodge them from this lucrative way of promoting and funding Scientology.

1. There is often a shame associated with addiction that prevents clients or victims from speaking freely about their experiences.
2. "Addicts" are immediately discredited as people who cannot manage their own lives and who "lie and manipulate" for their drug of choice, thus allowing these facilities a large measure of control over the individual and their confused and desperate family.
3.  Medical privacy and HIPAA laws allow them a level of secrecy under which to operate. They can take in all the information they want, but do not have to divulge any info out except by court order.
4. "Rehab" ( other than in-patient psychiatric) is the only treatment that gets away with limiting client access to the outside world.  This is a dangerous practice in itself.  Did you know Hazelden allows even Detox patients to make private phone calls?  Albeit, you have to wait in line for a public phone and calling times are limited, but you can contact your family.  Only Narconon cuts you off completely.
5. Desperate people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse often have sleep issues, medical problems and just plain self doubt, making them easy targets for scientology propaganda and practices.

I fear Scientology has found a perfect niche to hide in. It will be difficult but not impossible to bring them down and get them out of cloaked rehab. It is currently just too profitable and too easy a system to manipulate.

If we keep shining a light on the cockroaches (apologies to real cockroaches), sooner or later either the state or, better, Federal groups that can "extermate" them financially will get involved.

A drug summit is to be held in Monroe on December 3rd. There is no mention that Per Wickstrom will be in attendance, but is seen in videos and pictures beside April Demers.

Monroe County Drug Summit Set For December 3 - Monroe News

Quote
A summit to address community concerns about an epidemic of prescription drug and heroin use is set for Dec. 3 at Monroe County Community College. The summit, which will focus on what residents can do to reduce the problem and get users into treatment, will be held from 8 a. m. to 4 p. m. at the college campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. Organizers are expecting up to 200 people to attend the event, said April Demers, community and youth developer for the coalition. The event is being coordinated with the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office and the court system. “ It’s really coming together,” Ms. Demers said. “ There is a potential for big changes in the community. Our hope is to walk away with a strategic action plan.” A steering committee organizing the summit has been meeting every week to plan the event. The morning session will be the most informative and be open to the public, she said. It will include education and awareness programs and local, state and national data on heroin and prescription drug use. A 10- minute video and stories from families of drug users also are being planned. A number of legal and medical professionals and other stakeholders from the community will be invited to share information.
