Title: Word of Faith Radio Presents Kingdom of Cults: Scientology
Post by: AnonLover on July 11, 2013, 16:35
On July 6, 2013 the Part 1 podcast of a 2part series exposing the truth about Scientology beliefs and practices was broadcast on the internet by Brent Whetstone Ministries in Ohio.

Brent is a Christian Minister and was a former staff member of the Church of Scientology in Cleveland. His knowledge of Scientology is well beyond what we typically hear from ministers who preach about the bad things that happen in Scientology and this lecture is highly recommended for all Christians with an interest in the subject of Scientology controversies:

Mirrored on YouTube (minus the last 5mins of misc. info) with Brent's permission here:
http://youtu.be/ynz1EfQBBnY

Note: even though Brent opted to reuse the "Kingdom of Cults" tagline from the classic Walter Martin book for his new cult education series, this is NOT a retread of Dr. Martin's outdated material. The content is entirely drawn from Brent's personal experiences as a staff member and his own research (which is fairly extensive). Brent also gives a well placed plug for both Marc Headley's Blown for Good book and the Ex-kids website.

What is perhaps most interesting is that this fine podcast must have stirred the pot because as reported on the facebook page for Brent Whetstone Ministries - Scientology showed up to handle him on the following Monday! And they sent in no less than Blanca Brouzet, OT VIII, and ED of the Church of Scientology of Buffalo.

Ministry Update: So this is going to be a bit of a long post, but I wanted to give you guys an update of the events of today, but first let me take you back to this weekend.

On Saturday I released lesson 1 of my series of The Kingdom of Cults. I spoke on Scientology, many of you know from some of my previous sermons that I was a member of the Church of Scientology for two years. In lesson 1 of the Kingdom of the Cults I gave a background of what Scientology is, and what they believe, I spoke about how it controlled my life and almost ruined my marriage. This was the first time that I really spoke out against the church of Scientology. I prayed that God would use my message to open the eyes of at least one member of the church of Scientology. I offered a special prayer of salvation to the Scientologist who I know would listen, you see the church of Scientology has a group of people who work for what is called the Office of Special affairs who scour the internet for negative information on Scientology. My lesson on Scientology to date is the most listened to radio program that we have released.

So that brings me to today. I ran to the post office to drop off some mail this evening around 6:30, when I arrived home a car sped up behind me and pulled in front of my house. I went to investigate as a man and woman stepped out of the car, the woman ran up to me and gave me hug and said, "Brent it is so nice to finally meet you in person!!" I obviously looked shocked, and not aware of who she was because then she said, "Its me Blanca!" Then I realized I was standing face to face with Blanca Brouzet, OT VIII, and Executive director of the Church of Scientology of Buffalo New York.

To give you a bit of information and to decode some of the Scientology speak so far, OT VIII, or Operating Thetan Level 8 is the highest level of spiritual enlightenment avaiabel in the church of Scientology currently, there are 15 levels total but the upper levels are not released yet. Other notable OT VIII's are Tom Cruise.

As Executive Director of the Church of Buffalo she is like the President of the Church for Buffalo, pretty high up in the grand scheme of things, and here she was face to face with me. Now I thought she was here to serve me my excommunication papers, or "Golden Rod" from the church, so I asked her and her male companion to join me for coffee at Starbucks, I wanted them as far away from my house as I could get them.

So we went to Starbucks, I messaged members on the Board of Brent Whetstone Ministries to pray for me as I went on this trip. I asked the Holy Spirit to guide me, and he did just that.

I was able to share the Gospel Message and TRUE Message of Salvation with the Executive Director of the church of Scientology of Buffalo, who happened to be a former Christian. I know that because of the seed that was planted that the Holy Spirit can begin to work in her life and bring her back into the fold and out of the cult. Her male companion was receptive, as well.

I want you as my friends and partners to please pray for Blanca and her male companion. That the seed that was planted would grow and that the Holy Spirit would send more people into their lives to water it even more. Winning a top executive for Christ will have a major impact on bringing down this cult from the inside and bringing more people to Jesus.

This Saturday we will be diving further into Scientology and I will share more of the events of today on a special broadcast of Word of Faith Radio and on Spreecast. Be sure to tune in!

I love and pray for you all!!

-Brent

Part 2 of Brent's lecture will be broadcast this Saturday, July 13, 2013. I'm not sure of the time but it will likely be announced on the facebook page linked to above or on his twitter page here: https://twitter.com/brentwhetstone

Your welcome mefree. And I forgot to mention, after we chatted on his Facebook page Brent has been kind enough to offer to write up his lecture into an essay that he will be sending me for use with my Scientology Religiosity? series at some point in the future. Once I get that write up online, I'll post a link to it ITT.

Another interesting tidbit that came from our convo on facebook was that I asked Brent to clarify the remark he made in Part 1 about having friends in the Sea Org. He confirmed that they were people he had been on staff with, one of whom still exchanges Christmas cards with him! Imagine that - a Sea Org member being allowed to stay in contact with an ex-staff member turned Christian Minister. Needless to say, I was amazed.

Hearing additional details about his encounter with the ED of Buffalo who showed up at his house in Ohio 2 days after his initial podcast should be fascinating to say the least. So I encourage everyone who can, to tune in for part 2 this Saturday, even if the bible-thumper stuff isn't your thing... just the fact that he warranted such a kid glove response from Scientology so quickly is worthy of our attention imo. YMMV.

Not to be paranoid, but...

Brent needs to be careful when meeting these folks one-on-one, with no other witness. There have been instance in the past where such meeting were recorded, and 'selective editing' done to the recording to make it sound like a critic was endorsing Cof$ rather than criticizing it. Or worse.

This is really quite amazing. Thanks for the great work, AnonLover. I am listening and reading about Brent, and will comment more.

Prayer is powerful. I recently was in touch with a Sea Org member who was inspired to call out to God in prayer in the middle of a brutal sec check and was able to escape and continued to be aided in remarkable ways through prayer.

Still solidly in the closet because of family in the cult, but they write and ask for money.  They lie and have managed to avoid being discovered in sec checks.

Brent is awesome!  He is telling his story about fail attempt at recovery by OT8 Blanca, who says she is a Christian.

Brent tells her, basically, that Jesus is the Bridge To Total Freedom.

The Part 2 podcast is now archived and available on Brent's website and spreaker at the following links:

http://www.brentw.org/

Today's show was even better than the first installment and I will be mirroring the Part 2 episode in video format on my YouTube channel later today. Interesting to note that it ends up the ED from Buffalo who showed up at his house was not a direct result of his first broadcast, but rather - a recapture attempt to get him back onlines after leaving staff in 2009 due to his wife's influence after she found out what he was involved with via the Anonymous protests.

Added bonus - Brent has decided to dedicate the entire month to the subject of Scientology so next weekend there will be a Part 3 and then a Part 4 the following weekend.

The video version of Part 2:
http://youtu.be/WRZRA5MAF_0

Some of the more interesting tidbits we learned in this segment was the bold-faced lies Blanca Brouzet, OT VIII, and Executive director of the Church of Scientology of Buffalo, said to Brent in regards to what she thinks about his Christian faith. Once she gave him the opening he essentially trolled her with the Word of God in very nice way. I lol'd. Brent goes on to explain how what she said was lie and touches on the whole Christianity is an implant thing as well as reading out some tasty quotes from two of Hubbard's controversial lectures.

The last 15 minutes or so of the podcast Brent opened things up for questions from the chat room, where Damian and I (under my FB nick of "Heidi") where camped out playing backseat drivers throughout the broadcast offering up additional supporting info to everything talked about. We took full advantage of the opportunity for Q&A to feed Brent targeted questions specifically related to what he had lectured on. And that portion gets into further detail on his experience of working in the Cleveland Misssion, how easy it was for him to route out of a mission before his staff contract was up due to his wife's intervention, what the Volunteer Minister's course included when he took it in 2009 (he's sending me a copy of the checksheet for future reference), how the ED of his org refused to let Sea Org come near her operation due to their efforts to recruit her young daughter and other drama that went down between his mission and nearby orgs.

All that - and he's still just getting started and laying down the background info for the next 2 segments. I highly recommend part 1 & 2 for your listening enjoyment if you haven't heard these lectures yet. I have never heard anything quite like these talks before. And I find it fascinating to see/hear just how much things have changed in recent times when you compare Brent's lectures to the past generations of ministers (Eg: Albert Mohler from 2006 http://youtu.be/OrZY0NitGL4 ) where they went long on the pulpit bluster with very little useful information about Scientology actually relayed.

But with these Word of Faith Radio podcasts the mix is more well balanced imo. And while there is still preaching involved the amount of useful, detailed information relayed is way higher.

This might help us focus our questions better. Loved your show last week!

In support of Brent's discussion regarding the details pertaining to the Scientology Minister Course in his ongoing "Kingdom of Cults: SCIENTOLOGY" lecture series, I've put up some fair use dox for further study in the following image album on imgur.

There is one more small piece still to come that will be added to this collection later tonight or tomorrow: the 2pages of "catechism drill" documentation listed at the end of the table of contents pages.

BTW, I was in Cleveland on Sunday, so I decided to stop by the missions new building. I was there at about 3:00pm. There was no one around, and the doors were locked. When I was on staff the hours were always 11-6 on Sundays. So I am not sure if they are still active, or what happened.

You didn't happen to snap a picture of the mission being closed? There is an effort to collect detailed documentation like that (time, place, picture) in various places on the internet that would be very interested in having such a photo if it exists.

Excellent! The ideal pic would be something from a short distance back, where it's obvious that it's closed and nobody is home. Better yet - date and timestamp that photo if your camera has that capability. And you can e-mail that to me and I'll forward it on to the relevant bloggers who track closed/dieing orgs and missions closely and I'll make sure they credit you & linkback to your website of possible.

Agreed. As Brent said - that is an excellent talking point and it ties into the latest buzz brewing nicely. Plus I think that will bring a value-added element to the next lecture as an current-events highlight that will be a good change-up from the ongoing discussion of Brent's own personal experiences.

I will be discussing a bit about the Ministers course, a little more about my experience with the church, both the mission in Cleveland and the Org in Buffalo. But other than that I was going to open it up to the listeners!  ;)

Here's my questions for next Saturday's installment of the Kingdom of Cults: SCIENTOLOGY lectures...

Last week, I raised the question at the end of part 2 regarding whether or not you had any experience dealing with disenchanted public Scientologists while on staff at the Cleveland mission. In that same vein, I'm wondering if you had any experience dealing with either public or other staff members being told to disconnect from their friends or family. (Or any other disconnection related experiences.)

Along the same line of thought - a follow up question to your previous remarks on the process of routing out and related sec checks that you underwent when you left: were you not asked to do the PTS/SP course? And if so, what was that like?

And finally, based on the supporting documentation for your series that I posted on imgur today:

Kingdom of Cults: Scientology Minister Course Dox
http://imgur.com/a/zn5YO#0

From the Minister Course checksheet I noticed that you completed the required reading for Section I: KEEPING SCIENTOLOGY WORKING and Section IV: GREAT RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD.

On those topics - the KSW policies is often cited by other former members as the point in which it seemed Hubbard really went off the rails and things became cult-like. So I'm wondering if you remember your own first thoughts/impression on those KSW policies and whether or not it raised questions for you. You can find copies of those policies if need be, linked to on this reference page (upper left): http://www.xenu-directory.net/practices/ksw1.html

The ^^same with the chapters on Eastern Religions. Scientology loves laying that claim to being a derivative of various Indic religious traditions. I've been researching those so-called connections lately, for the next couple of volumes in my Scientology Religiosity? series on Scribd (related discussion thread here: http://forum.reachingforthetippingpoint.net/index.php/topic,7973.0.html), and imo the similarities with Shintoism is downright scary. But similarities with everything else listed on that checksheet - not so much. So I'm wondering if your first thoughts/impression of that material was compatible with the claim Hubbard's teachings were the modern-day derivative of Buddist/Eastern beliefs.

And lastly - a followup request for a quote from your wife, regarding that funny tidbit you revealed last week on how they got her to come in and take the Communication Course, and with her being a Communications major - it only took her like an hour to complete it! What did she think when she seen that course material? And I'm wondering if they made her do those bizarre TRs since she was essentially only doing the course as a PTS handling action?

Hey Lynn,

I will reiterate what I said when I spoke with Blanca, I am no longer a scientologist.  AS I told Blanca salvation is FREE, no amount of money can buy your salvation. As a matter of fact, the debt to obtain salvation was so high that only one person could pay that price, and that was Jesus. In scientology you have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to obtain spiritual freedom. Unfortunately that money buys you nothing, The Bible says that that wages of sin is death(spiritual death, separation from God). Jesus came and suffered death on behalf of the human race, so we dont have to go to hell. The only thing you have to do is pray a simple prayer, not spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. The prayer is easy, simple and provided you mean the words that you say and get your heart right with God you wont have to suffer hell. Lynn, if you are read to ensure your spiritual eternity all you have to do is say this prayer:

Dear God,
I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved (Rom. 10:9). I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for saving me!
In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

If you said that prayer and meant it in your heart you are SAVED!! No need for any courses or auditing. Just a simple prayer, and the best part is that it was FREE, I wont charge you anything.

If you prayed that prayer I would love to know about it! Please feel free to email me and let me know!!

Here is my response from Buffalo....

buffalo@scientology.net

to me

Dear Brent,

I totally understand what you are saying as my Dad is a minister and have done what you have said many years back.  We have people of all religions doing courses here.  I never received training on practical everyday things such as communication, handling suppression, etc.  prior to studying Scientology.  Scientology is a practical religion which is why people of all walks and faiths use it in their daily life.

I am not sure who told you that you could not use the courses to better things in life if you believed in Jesus, but I have not found anything stating that  and I have done auditing and a lot of study.   I wanted to clear that up with you as it sounds like you were given misinformation.

I wish the services could be free; however, there is not goverment funding given and donations are used to keep the services and data available for the community and help the people in the area.

I know there were various things you were wanting to improve with Scientology courses and I encourage you to still do those while not abandoning your faith.  Scientology does not tell you what to believe, that is for you to decide.  As LRH states in Scientology The Fundamentals of Thought, " Scientology does not teach you.  IT only reminds you.  For the informations was yours in the first place."

I sincerely hope you continue your study of the Basics as it will give you so many valuable tools to use in life, whether a Scientologist or not.

Regards,

Lynn

Here is my response! Thanks to Anonlover for your help crafting this!!

Lynn,

There is nothing to "continue" since my study of the basics is in a state of non-existence. My spiritual path in life makes all of the answers you are trying in vain to sell me unnecessary. In Fundamentals of Thought, Hubbard defines life in a way that I find incompatible with the basic nature of humanity and life in general. I have discovered that beingness, doingness and havingness are the root cause of robotism. This is my truth, and as such, you are trying to sell me something that strips me of my humanity while assuming that is OK to invalidate my own personal truth. As stated in Fundamentals of Thought:

One "needs" an identity to play the game, as covered later, but mainly to "get attention".

In comparison, my Christian faith teaches the same principle in the bible in an entirely different context:

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. (Acts 20:24)

My identity is that of a child of God and my existence is defined by knowing that I am blessed with His Grace and love. My eternity is not in jeopardy and the word of God has given me the only form of salvation that I feel is necessary for navigating life and the gift of existence God has given me. These are my basics and this is what is true for me. I encourage you to look at your existence as a Scientologist and ask yourself why is it that the promised benefits of “knowing how to know” spanning multiple lifetimes has never manifested itself in a way that cannot be disputed. Moreover, why is it that a person’s individual truth is invalidated if it is not that same as your Church’s mandated truths?

I also encourage you to reflect on exactly why the revelations of your existence as a Thetan are kept confidential and not discussed outside of the auditing room. Then compare that to my spiritual path where salvation is free, having doubts is considered being human not a sin, and having a life dedicated to the purpose of openly testifying to the good news of God's grace free of financial costs is all that is needed to feel enlightened.

If you reflect on these points with an open mind, surely you can come to understand that my freedom from the constraints that Hubbard's basics impose on one's worldview is far more valuable than anything The Bridge promises to deliver. And if you are unable to understand that perspective, then I encourage to you open your heart to God's enlightenment and say the prayer for salvation I sent you in the context of asking God to free you from the trap of living a life where humanity has been denigrated to the status of being a game rather than a gift and blessing.

You will be in my own prayers, and I will ask God on your behalf to send you a sign of his Grace and that you may known the unconditional love Jesus delivered to us, which flourishes in a world where a Tone Scale does not deprive us of the greatest characteristics of humanity.
-Brent

I have never seen this said better. I hope she will read this, and understand it. If she doesn't, it is not your fault. You have given her a chance, I think.

the big response...

Dear Brent,

I appreciate you getting back with me.  It sounds like you no longer need to address the areas you were interested in previously.  I am not trying to change your beliefs in any way.  I do respect your beliefs and am glad that it sounds like you have read some of the Basics.

Should you change your mind in the future, you know what courses are available for your use.

Regards,

Lynn

Well that was a graceful way to admit defeat. At least she (or someone) read it.

Hopefully this is the end of Scientology trying to get you back on lines. (fingers crossed)

I hope so too - but I wouldn't bet on it! You have to give the poor culties credit for their persistence, but don't forget - their numbers are dwindling every day, and they are desperate to get 'bodies in the shop'! So I think you may continue getting comm from them, although maybe not from Lynn. If so, please share it with us - we can always use a good laugh!

The First Epistle of Brent to the Scientologians - this is true evangelism, expressing the Gospel in terms of the culture of those to whom it is spoken.

"Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary", said St. Francis of Assisi. You have done both in this situation.

Will it have an impact on Lynn? Who knows? That is up to God in his own time yand not us; but you have planted a seed of doubt and shone a ray of light in the darkness.

I recently exchanged messages with a Sea Org member who has become a new Christian.

He is a second generation cultist. In the middle of a brutal sec check he prayed to God to deliver him, and God heard his prayer.

God gave him to opportunity and courage to escape. He wrote me that thereafter God continued to lead.

Strangers came into his life to feed him and offer him a place to stay until he got back on his feet.

Nearly his entirely family is still in, and he continues to love them and hope for their salvation from the cult.

His parents are aging and too scared to leave. He sends them money.

Even though they have disconnected they have learned how to lie in sec checks and write to him for money from time to time when they really get desperate.

To paraphrase St. Paul, "Brent planted the seed; Anonlover watered the plant, but it is God who gives the increase."

Lulz. Can't wait. I was going to submit questions but have been preoccupied preparing for Victoria Britton's interview about the death of her son Kyle Brennan with Colleen Sautez on her X-Women show which is being broadcast today at 3:00 pm Eastern/Noon Pacific:

https://whyweprotest.net/community/threads/victoria-britton-interview-on-the-death-of-kyle-brennan-saturday-july-20-2013-noon-pacific-time.112435/#post-2333187

There is one great concern I have currently which is the assault on young people and particularly high schoolers that is being carried out through drug (mis)education and human rights campaigns launched from local orgs by Narconon, CCHR, Youth For Human Rights International, and the Way To Happiness.

If you have some insight to add from your experience I would appreciate it. Thanks!

The hassles he endured with constantly changing his phone number and being told to not let his newborn son to get vaccinations.

This bit about the vaccinations is really disturbing. Way to go scientology! It's not bad enough that most of the people in the Sea Org don't get decent health care; let's make sure they're all vulnerable to more communicable diseases, too.

From Ex-scientology Kids
Quote
Sea Org members are denied proper medical care. They are not provided health insurance, are not given sick days, and the Sea Org will not purchase their medicine for them. If a free clinic won’t provide the medicine someone needs, the Sea Org management won’t shoulder the costs. There are numerous cases of people who have become very ill in the Sea Org, or who had pre-existing medical conditions, and were not allowed to seek medical treatment.Sickness is also treated as the fault of the sick person, because Scientologists believe that the only reason someone gets sick is that they are connected to a Suppressive Person. They believe that you can decide not to get sick. So when someone becomes ill, they are treated as though they have done something wrong by not “handling” the situation.

I got one big question for you this week Brent.

Regarding the "waking up" process many folks go thru once they get unattached from the Church of Scientology and reality sets in. The gist of those first hand accounts usually follow the pattern of - I knew it was bad for such-n-such reason(s), so I left. Then afterward I found out this, that, other revelations, etc. And suddenly -- WOW! Holy xenu it was so much worse than I ever realized!!!

I'm interested in hearing what major realizations may have hit you like a ton a bricks after you got out and reality set in?

Last weekend, Word of Faith radio returned to the issue of cults in general. Brent did a fascinating episode with cult expert Rand Burkey who talks about his own experiences with The Way International and Brent draws some interesting comparisons to his experiences with Scientology. They also do an informative retread of the Cult Awareness Network lawsuits that eventual takedown that Randy was involved in where he reveals that he was deposed by Greta Van Sustern.

Although this broadcast was entirely dedicated to the subject of Scientology, I still found it incredibly helpful. Especially the latter half where Brent and Randy compare notes on getting cult members out of manipulative groups.

You can listen to the podcast replay here:
http://www.spreaker.com/user/wofr/word_of_faith_radio_presents_rand_burkey

Burkey is slated to be returning guest on Brent's weekly broadcasts and he is the author of book published in 2011 called "Delivered from Deception" that exams the cult experience from a Christian perspective:

Great!  I'm really glad he's back.  I hate it when the cult manages to intimidate people into silence, or complicate their lives so they just want to get away and back to normal.

Old news: Brent Whetstone's "Cult Watch" programs picked up again in January, and he's now featured on iHeart radio in addition to his spreaker channel:

His initial return to the interwebz airways picked up where he left off, on the subject of Scientology in general:

Cult Watch: Scientology returns for 2014 with all new info on Scientology!

Then Narconon was featured last month in two broadcasts that are well worth a listen:

We will be looking at the Scientology front group, Narconon. Narconon, the scientology answer to drug rehabilitation boasts a 70-80% success rate, while most other rehab centers only can attain a 10-20% success rate. However, a strand of recent deaths at their Oklahoma facility paint a very different picture. This is one program that you do not want to miss.
