WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - In response to a request from Catholic Online for a statement concerning two lawsuits filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by former Scientologist Daniel Montalvo, International spokesman for the Church of Scientology, Tommy Davis, sent us the following statement:

As you well know anyone can claim anything in a civil court filing and the recent lawsuits against the Church are certainly proof of that. I would very much appreciate your including our statement in your posting to provide balance.

Our statement is as follows:

The Church of Scientology has not been served with any suits by Mr. Montalvo and therefore cannot comment on charges and claims it has not read. To the extent there are allegations of intentional wrongdoing or negligence on the part of the Church or any violations of the law, these allegations are denied.

The allegations reported by the media on this case against the Church of Scientology are unfounded and will be proven to be false. You should be advised that similar charges against the Church were recently dismissed with prejudice by a Federal District Court in Los Angeles and the Church was awarded its costs.

You should also be advised that Mr. Montalvo has already admitted to being ʺforced" to file his complaint despite his desire not to. He has also confessed to stealing and then distributing Church property. When all of the underlying facts emerge we are confident that his complaint, like the recently dismissed federal action will suffer the same fate.

DANIEL MONTALVO

You should also be aware that Daniel Montalvo was arrested and jailed for theft and detained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff for having stolen and subsequently damaged property of the Church of Scientology. The material he stole included proprietary information belonging to the Church of Scientology valued at tens of thousands of dollars. Mr. Montalvo gave these stolen goods and information to anti--]‑Scientologists who have no credibility. They then assisted Mr. Montalvo in moving these stolen goods across state lines and placing them in the possession of another anti--]‑Scientologist living in Florida where they were subsequently retrieved by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Not only has Mr. Montalvo stolen Church property, he is also currently under investigation for spousal abuse for breaking his wife's nose, among other serious injuries. He is under a court issued permanent restraining order to stay away from his wife, the Church and Bridge Publications.

Both matters are currently open and under investigation by the appropriate law enforcement authorities in Los Angeles.

It is of note that Mr. Montalvo is currently living with another anti‑Scientologist who was just convicted for assault and battery of an officer of the court.
