Notice on page two 60 out of 121 graduated a 49.5% success rate BUT Narconons 70% or greater is calculated on the number of students who graduate.

So 70% of 60 are 42 students who will remain drug free according to Narconon.

The real success rate is 42/121*100% = 34.7%

34.7% ? Hmmm. On one hand I guess we should be happy for those 34.7% that made it.

And...it would be interesting to know how many of that 34.7% stay clean for 1 year or longer after graduation.

Agreed! Sadly I think that would be a statistic we may never know.

If I am not mistaken, thirty to thirty five percent is about the average rate of recovery amongst addicts.

I'm sure it varies by substance, but that's about right for those who completed treatment and aftercare, according to NIDA.

Why does Mary Rieser DIRECTOR OF NARconON OF GEORGIA have so many liens, forclosures and laws suits currently filed against her? If she is making north of $80,000 in 2009 why does this shining example of social more,s not pay her bills?

Sadly, it probably all went to Scientology. Notice she made about half as much the next year.

Some more info on Narconon of Georgia's financial records.

GA 2010 990 form
"Narconon of Georgia_delivered 2090 hours of drug rehabilitation services
and 597 life skills-courses-to 121 individuals. As_our_final product
we _created_dr_ug_fret lives and graduated 60 students.- Services include
safe drug free withdrawal, detoxification to cleanse the body of drugs
and other chemicals, and a carefully designed program of courses that
enable students to develope essentiail life skills......"

Payroll Taxes Payable 79,633
Refunds Owed 83,256.

http://dynamodata.fdncenter.org/990_pdf_archive/421/421534941/421534941_201012_990.pdf

Look at the refunds they owed at the end of 2010! And they owed payroll taxes that are nearly half of the annual salaries for that year! Must be multiple years from those past audits on the payroll.
Most importantly, what it does not say is that of the 49.5% who graduated, many of them returned to redo the program ( or work for them in those apts ) because they relapsed.

I've only gone part of the way through this, but here's what catches my attention so far.

Part IV:
Quote
26 Was a loan to or by a current or former officer, director, trustee, key employee, highly compensated employee, or disqualified person outstanding as of the end of the organization's tax year If 'Yes,' complete Schedule L, Part 11

Marked yes.  I wonder who it is that owes money, and to whom?

Schedule L, Part 11:
Quote
(1) Mary Reiser Operating Funds 32,875

Oh, look, it's Mary Rieser - she loaned Narconon $32,875 - this is the woman whose home was foreclosed because she didn't pay the HOA fees.  (Oh, and the tax preparer spelled her name wrong throughout.)

Part VI, Section B:
Quote
10a Does the organization have local chapters, branches, or affiliates?

Marked no.

Quote
16a Did the organization invest in, contribute assets to, or participate in a joint venture or similar arrangement with a taxable entity during the year?

Marked no.

I wonder what they consider their arrangement with Discovery Course, then?

Quote
b If 'Yes,' has the organization adopted a written policy or procedure requiring the organization to evaluate its participation in joint venture arrangements under applicable federal tax law, and taken steps to safeguard the organization's exempt status with respect to such arrangements?

... ?

Part IX:
Quote
11 Fees for services (non-employees)
...
b Legal 2,871.

I'm sure the 2010 action in the Desmond case must amount to more than that!  Narconon International must be paying the legal fees in the Desmond case?

In question 10a (above) they answered that they didn't have affiliates.   :!:
