The jailed killer has an obsession with the religion made famous by Knight And Day actor Tom Cruise, 48.

He is also said to blur the lines between fantasy and reality, leading to prison bosses arranging regular sessions for him with a shrink amid fears for his sanity.

Insiders at the jail, which we cannot name for legal reasons, are increasingly concerned about his interest in aliens, UFOs, sci-fi telly shows.

He has also developed an interest in Scientology.

Venables, who murdered toddler James Bulger when he was 10, is said to have copies of books by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard in his cell block.

One source said: “He can’t get enough of them. He believes every word of it and is increasingly into magic and aliens.

“He pretends to be conventionally religious and has a Bible as well, but when he speaks to warders about it he goes on about how God made aliens too.

“It’s not normal. But then he is not normal.”
