Scientology Official Calls for Government-Community Cooperation to Attack Drug ... - PR Web (press release)
6 May 2010, 6:19 pm

Speaking to a coalition of anti-drug activists Tuesday night at the new Church of Scientology of Los Angeles in Hollywood, the Reverend Robert Adams pointed to establishment of the Interagency Working Group on Demand Reduction established by the White House Office of Drug Control Policy (the “Drug Czar”) as a positive step, and called for similar interaction at regional, state and local level.

A spokesperson for Church of Scientology International, Rev. Adams said that despite billions poured into “the drug problem” by governments, meaningful demand reduction will only come about “by involving everyone and bringing on all solutions, starting with education. No single group or government can do it alone, but together we can rid our communities of drugs in a single generation.”

LOL.This news coming from a state that has all but legalized marijuana. Even the great state of Georgia has medicinal marijuana laws in place. Though stringent at this time, Georgia will someday decriminalize its possession and use.

No single group or government can do it alone, but together we can rid our communities of drugs in a single generation.”

This is (excuse the pun) a pipe dream.  We know that scientologists are opposed to not only all illegal drugs, but all legitimate psychiatric drugs as well, and a host of other drugs with multiple uses.  Eliminating these legal drugs will not happen, nor will elimination of illegal drugs, short of making anything that is illegal, legal.

In the 1930s, when prohibition was in effect, people made their own alcoholic beverages, often with more detrimental health effects on the partaker than the legal version that was made illegal.

Modern day: The "War on Drugs" has turned people to finding alternatives to imported drugs, such as huffing spray paint from a paper bag, a far more dangerous alternative to many other illegal drugs; smoking or chewing salvia, a plant commonly grown in gardens which also provides us with the spice, sage, but is now being demonized and made illegal in some states, despite being relatively safe as far as physical effects go; homemade crystal meth; and I'm sure that someone into the drug culture can name many, many more examples.

People who want to alter their consciousness will find a way to do so, whatever substances are made illegal and/or erradicated from a society.  Scientology has no alternatives for these people, other than false promises of OT powers or exteriorization (out of body experiences).  They are trying to gain credibility through association, or to form alliances with powerful individuals through whom they can promote their agenda.
