A friend of mine was trying to locate a copy of the book in nearby Frederick, Md. He reports:

"I just called the library in Frederick county and they said they have a few copies of 'Going Clear,' but they are checked out.  When she asked if I wanted to be notified when they are returned, she said something like "if they are returned." When I asked what she meant, she said they have trouble getting people to return it. She said 'It must be awful popular.""

Given the legal activity around the proposed Narconon site in the area, it isn't too surprising that Scn operatives are pulling this stunt. Their term use to be "PR Area Control," I think.

Hmmm...  sounds like they could use a copy the residents could pass around amongst themselves.  I wonder if Mary McConnell might be able to facilitate something like that.   >:D

It's possible the library just doesn't have enough copies for everyone that wants to read it, and it's not "Scn operatives" doing something nefarious. I'd like to see some facts about who checked them out, and what the library's been trying to get them back before jumping to that conclusion.

I live a county away but will look into it. I can also ask someone over there  to check it out..

Libraries charge patrons money for items not returned. Very costly. They also know who checked it out and where they live. Not like the old days where you could go to any library and borrow.  But it's possible. I will check it out.

Thanks for the heads up.

I can ask which library branch gave my friend this information. They may be able to offer details about the use pattern for this and other critical books.
