Dec 1, 2010 -- Scheduled network enhancement
« on: November 28, 2010, 19:42 »
Our web host has notified us of network changes which will be taking place in the early hours of December 1, 2010.  There is no expected interruption in service (site availibility) to us, but it is always a possibility when the wizards play with the magic called "the net".

Just letting our members and lurkers know in advance so there won't be a run on tin foil if there is any downtime.  No reason to panic - I have every confidence in our host.

Here is the message I received:

Just after midnight on the morning of Wednesday, December 1, a new network connection will be added that potentially may impact network routing for a few hours.  This has happened several times in the past few years without any issues but the potential for routing to be slow (or drop) afterwards could happen.

Quote
    Maintenance Notification:
Time: 00:01am EST on Wednesday, December 1st.
    Window duration: 2 hours
Anticipated impact: Gold network routing changes

    Description:
    Upstream connection maintenance

    Details of Action:
A new connection to XO will be added to the Atlanta Gold network on the morning of December 1st.  Route optimization will also be restarted at this time.  No outage is anticipated, but some routing changes will occur as the new connection comes online and route optimization integrates new routes.

Be nice.  Don't hit.  Don't run with scissors.  Try not to make a mess, and if you do, clean it up.

What do you do when 'potential' is your favorite word
and then the bus leaves you at the next move sideways?
