Title: Attention: Former Narconon Students/Clients/Attendees, please do this survey
Post by: ethercat on January 30, 2011, 15:55
Just so this gets plenty of attention, I'm quoting this post here in the Narconon section:

The Downtown Independent Research Team has created a survey for former clients of Narconon, which is being housed here at Reaching for the Tipping Point.

The link is:
          http://reachingforthetippingpoint.net/narcononsurvey/

Please spread this link anywhere it's appropriate and where former Narconon clients may find it.

This ought to be good.   ooo}

Are you sure this is safe, ??? and not some kind of scientology ploy to get to personal  information of ex-clients? I'd gladly cooperate in any serious study, but i'm kind of paranoid when it comes to surveys from institutions I don't know personally.

Sorry for being a such a nuisance, but my motto, when it comes to Co$ is "better safe than sorry".

Love, Sekh.

Yes, I'm sure it is safe.  I've been around the critical arena for a long time (you can look me up if you like), and I wouldn't lend my name to something I didn't personally know was safe.  You can use an alias if you like.

The Downtown Independent Research Team has added an About Us page, and a contact form, for anyone who might have questions or comments:

http://reachingforthetippingpoint.net/narcononsurvey/about.html

Help in publicizing this survey would be greatly appreciated.

What does "sticky thread" mean?

Normally, the threads with the most recent posts come to the top, and the ones with older posts fall to the bottom of the list.  Making a thread "sticky" means setting it so it will always stay at the top.  Usually used for important threads, and, on this forum, designated with a (http://forum.reachingforthetippingpoint.net/Themes/Reaching_for_the_Tipping_Point/images/icons/show_sticky.gif) in the listing.

I will try to have Marc Allard from a Newspaper, print the Survey we address in his next story.

LOL,..., he really doesn't have too much choice. No printy, no story,..., LOL,..., just kidding.

This is a most important survey. Do hope more guests visiting us here, who have done the Narconon program, will take a few mins to fill it out.

Thanks, David!

I will write a News Article on my Montreal Examiner Publishing Site about NN Success rate. The National Examiner
and San Jose is picking up my stories now.

So I will write about the Survey and put some links to the Survey AND I will link to the New Domain when it's up.
If it takes a while, I will just write a follow-up article and then LINK.

I will also ask my dear Journalist "Friend" here in Montreal, to publish a link to it - - you know
who I mean - - I'll just "Call in Some Markers" that are owed to me,..., LOL :-)

My Friends are already Sharing/Linking my posts.

"Smart People Today" is a marketing company that I have owned since I published
my first book in the early 1990's and wrote a "Revised" edition while at NN TR.

I LOVE marketing, PR, and informing the public :)

Cool! We had a flurry of people seeking help with Narconon issues and then......it got quiet. Hopefully, that is a good thing.

I'll need to check out The Ripoff Report and a few other sites to see what I can locate.

Take care and get some rest, David.

Getting ready for big Montreal Protest tomorrow - - FREEZING COLD HERE,..., Bbbrrrrrr!!!

There is a discussion still going on at The Fix on the article
Inside Scientology's Rehab Racket. Perhaps some of the ex-
Narconon people who have been hurt would be willing to take
your survey. The article is good:

Sorry Jessica, I am a real person who did the program and still drug-free.  Can't be all bad can it then?  Sorry to burst your bubble.

No, it is not ALL bad, but neither is a Ship filled with asbestos ALL bad - - but when the Cancer-Causing crap begins to kill people, it must be removed. If only 10-20% of Narconon patients remain drug free and some die while in their incompetent care (like the 4 recent deaths at NN Arrowhead), it is time to remove the causes of death and abuse.

Narconon counts on people falling for the proof by testimonial con. They even fall for it themselves.

Nice article.  Thanks for linking to it.

From: http://www.csicop.org/si/show/why_bogus_therapies_seem_to_work/
Quote
At least ten kinds of errors and biases can convince intelligent, honest people that cures have been achieved when they have not.

Those who sell therapies of any kind have an obligation to prove, first, that their treatments are safe and, second, that they are effective. The latter is often the more difficult task because there are many subtle ways that honest and intelligent people (both patients and therapists) can be led to think that a treatment has cured someone when it has not. This is true whether we are assessing new treatments in scientific medicine, old nostrums in folk medicine, fringe treatments in “alternative medicine,” or the frankly magical panaceas of faith healers.

To distinguish causal from fortuitous improvements that might follow any intervention, a set of objective procedures has evolved for testing putative remedies. Unless a technique, ritual, drug, or surgical procedure can meet these requirements, it is ethically questionable to offer it to the public, especially if money is to change hands. Since most “alternative” therapies (i.e., ones not accepted by scientific biomedicine) fall into this category, one must ask why so many customers who would not purchase a toaster without consulting Consumer Reports shell out, with trusting naivetë, large sums for unproven, possibly dangerous, health remedies.

More at the link.

And in Narconon's case, I've often said that any drug rehab would work, if the person attending is motivated enough to get clean.  It's sinister the way NN "steals" people's successes from them and claims them for themselves.

I would love to fill out this survey when I have a good amount of time to sit down, think and type away.  :) When and how will we be able to read what others' responses are?

Thanks!

Thanks!

They'll be posted on a website (not this one), minus the personal information and a few of the questions.  It shouldn't be too much longer.  Also, only the ones designated to be public will be posted, since there's the choice on the survey to keep the responses private if desired.  It will be great to have your responses too.

Hello, I am new here. My daughter is currently in the facility at Caliente. I am trying to fill out the survey but it will not send the info.    This place is such a sham! Many terrible things going on there right now!  I have been duped out of money and cannot afford another program cost like this. SO, ANGRY! Everything they told me about the program was a total LIE!  Please let me know when the link is fixed and I can send the survey information. You can have anyone writing an article about this place to call me. I have very current information.

Hi larryzoe, thanks for contact us here. Which Program and facility location would you like to file complaints about.  That wil help me be able to direct you.

As far as recommendations, here are a few resources to help you locate a program, know what to ask for,  and then to make sure it is reputable.

First, visit our sister site, Narconon Reviews. This link takes you to the section on How to Choose a Rehab
http://narcononreviews.net/resources/for-potential-clients/how-to-choose-a-drug-or-alcohol-rehab/

You can also locate here on Narconon Reviews, where to make complaints about your experiences at a Narconon or unbranded Narconon program
http://narcononreviews.net/resources/for-former-clients/making-complaints-about-your-drug-rehab-experience/

To locate information about a licensed program, try the following Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) government website link.

You can call their helpline, as described below, or use their treatment locator found at this link: http://findtreatment.samhsa.gov/

However, beware that some licensed Narconon or unbranded Narconon programs will be listed at SAMHSA.

SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357), (also known as the Treatment Referral Routing Service) or TTY: 1-800-487-4889 is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations. Callers can also order free publications and other information.
https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline

Sober living facilities are not always regulated.  It depends on State or county laws. If I knew which states you want to consider for this kind of arrangemnent, I could better locate resources for you to get more information on what exists and how to contact some.

Narconon Reviews is currently in the process of working to update the lists of program names, due to some programs changing facility names ( and registering/using new fictitious names ) in order to avoid the Narconon connection. In the meantime, check back here if you want to make sure a specific program is NOT a Narconon based one.

Hope this help!

I have been informed that the Survey's CAPTCHA system has been adjusted due to some people having problems with it in order to get their survey accepted for submission.

CAPTCHA is the program or system intended to distinguish human from machine input, typically as a way of thwarting spam and automated extraction of data from websites.

All surveys, including those found at the CAPTCHA stage, have been received.

Thank you to all who have submitted surveys. We look forward to receiving more as the site link to the survey. These are then forwarded to the Downtown Independent Research Team, who manages and maintains the results of the survey.
