National Recovery Month Event (PitchEngine)
21 September 2009, 5:45 pm

09.21.2009 – Narconon of Georgia is planning to tell “The Truth About Drugs” at a local county fair as part of its ongoing efforts in support of National Recovery Month. Each year Narconon maintains a presence at the fair and this year is no different. Narconon expects to hand out thousands of informational pamphlets to fair goers and to provide truthful information about drug abuse.

This information is intended to give parents and children alike the facts about the harmful effects of drugs. This is the goal of National Recovery month as well, with communities across the country joining together to help people recognize that substance abuse is treatable and preventable. Addiction treatment and other recovery support programs are as effective as treatment for other chronic conditions. Recovery Month aims to ensure that all those affected by addiction are aware of and can seek treatment so they can reclaim their lives in recovery.

More than 23 million people aged 12 or older needed treatment for drug abuse in the United States in 2007. Many people do not understand that addiction is an entirely preventable and treatable condition and this misconception can keep people from getting help as it did for nearly 20.8 million people nationwide who needed but did not receive help.

Mary Rieser, the Director of Narconon of Georgia stated, "We used to look to the schools to provide drug education. Now, statistics show that the schools actually need our help. Obviously, with so many drugs passing hands at school, the kids are not learning the truth about drug abuse and many of their parents are unwittingly contributing to it. National Recovery Month provides a focal point for our efforts.Too many kids are getting addicted and too many have died. It is time to do something about it."

Narconon of Georgia offers a highly successful drug treatment program as well as education for the entire state of Georgia and beyond. Narconon sincerely hopes that its efforts in drug education will help prevent drug addiction from becoming a problem in your family.
