Feel free to add the Month / day (if RS is not monthly) / year of the RS article.

The thread is to be added to by anyone, your contribution is excellent!

Also, the books I listed, with the exception of some of the ex-sci books which are online or out of print, are all available via Amazon.com.

I thought I would include Richard Behar's article from TIME Magazine. The author was fair-gamed pretty badly and the magazine harassed through litigation for years after it was written. I think it is one of the reasons the press had been so hesitant to write about Scientology in the past.

Looking for more info on "How the Psychiatrist Cured the Scientologist," which is apparently a new ex-Sci book offering.

Actually, I may order it, as it is not too pricey on Amazon, and report back myself.

Not sure these belong here, but for the celebrity watchers: Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography
I hate to write in public that I have this. The beginning is about his early childhood and it is a bore, but the last part on $cientology is pretty good.  It gives a great inside look to the celebrity $cientologists. It can be found at Banres and Noble currently for about $5.00

Along the same lines:
http://www.spinner.com/2009/07/14/jackson-biographer-i-set-out-to-nail-him/
I am a bit shacking when an author admits a huge bias before writting even when I may agree with it.  However, it will have a section on $cientology.

Hey, I have the Morton book, too, and I don't LIKE Cruise, either.

Margery Wakefield--The Road to Xenu (a fictionalized account of her time in Scientology) Read it online.

Margery Wakefield has posted that she will begin agressively marketing her old books, and that she is writing a new book, called Ruined Lives about ex-members for the general public.  It's great to see her back in the arena, and I look forward to her new book.  The time is right for it.

When it hits Amazon, let us know.

I just ordered Bonnie Woods' book.

Also, next time I am in ATL, I will bring the 20/20 DVD special on Scientology: it is dated and does not hit as hard as it could, but is interesting. Some people who DO NOT currently give interviews are in it. It is / was available via Amazon.

Also ordered the His Highness Hollywood DVD.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GKG3CM/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
There was only one for sale when I purchased it, but as it is an independent seller, he may offer another.

It is a list of books critical of Scientology.

The Complex by Duignan (http://www.amazon.com/Complex-Insider-Exposes-Covert-Scientology/dp/1903582849/ref=cm_lmf_tit_11_rdsssl1) and Aaron David Gottfried's book, e Psychiatrist who cured the Scientologist, (http://www.amazon.com/Psychiatrist-who-cured-Scientologist/dp/0981057209/ref=cm_srch_res_rtr_1) suffer from a lot of typographical errors. The Duignan book is readable despite these; the Gottfried book is really frustrating and desperately needed an editor to step in.

Hollywood, Satanism, Scientology, and Suicide seems like it could be an interesting read!

A quick summary, from the post:
Quote
Jerry Staton's Hollywood, Satanism, Scientology, and Suicide is a methodical exploration of the extent to which Scientology took advantage of the legal system by posing as a religion in the employment of ruthless standards of behavior modification designed to erase and redesign the minds of adherents.

"His Highness Hollywood" was a stitch. He is doing the Sasha Baron Cohen thing, like Borat. I was distracted by the horrible kelly green sequined shirt and gold lame' bow tie his inept and rude "publicist" forced him to wear, for many days on end. Michael Pattinson is AWESOME in this. "His Highness" infiltrates the Scilon hive at length, too.

Next time I am in ATL, I will bring this film, unless someone else gets it first, and will also bring the old 20/20 DVD on CoS.

Just got Bonnie's book today. Will tackle it soon. A very quick flip and scan set off my proofreader radar (two punctuation errors / typos), which indicates it may ("MAY"! not "definitely does"!) suffer from the same lack of editing / proofreading as Duignan's book (which rises above them to be an engaging and bittersweet book), but it is nowhere near as bad as Gottfried's (almost unreadable, and I have been online a long time and can read LOL and txtspk with ease).

Anyway, it is her STORY I care most about.

You know, I would gladly scan the exes' books in text format for spelling / punctuation / grammar and send them back what I found. It is a pain for me to read long texts on my computer, especially if they require a memory-hogging program that fights with the browser I am using to surf career sites and home-finding sites and so on...but I COULD, even if it took a while. I'm sure I'm not alone. I am disheartened that they all seem to have these proofing problems. Lesson for our writers, here: GET A SECOND SET OF EYES, minimum, to look at your book before you release it. Not necessarily for plot details ro flow, but for the little roadblocks of goofed-up punctuation / spelling / grammar.

/grumpy

(Boy will I be embarrassed if my eye caught the ONLY two errors in the entire book and I ranted anyway. o_O)
